Forget what you knew about Other Mama. The acclaimed restaurant that’s garnered a laundry list of recognitions since it opened its doors in 2015 has just upped the ante with vegan options in Las Vegas.
James Beard nominee for Best Chef: Southwest in 2020, Dan Krohmer, recently returned to his restaurant and brought with him some new menu items. The most important (to us, obviously) are the vegan dishes.
“I went to do dinner with a friend who went vegan last year, and he was expressing his feelings about how you tend to get the same generic stuff at restaurants when they ‘say’ they have vegan options, but it’s just modified versions of things on the menu,” Krohmer explains. “I also realized that it’s something I would like to learn how to do better professionally even for my own knowledge at home.”
With the addition of the thoughtful vegan dishes at Other Mama, the restaurant now stands to open itself up to another audience — those who want a higher end, plant-based dining experience from one of the city’s most recognized chefs.

This is just the start. According to Krohmer, he’d like to start doing vegan tasting menus in the future.
So, what kind of vegan eats does the restaurant named one of the best restaurants of the year in 2019 by KNPR and “one of the best restaurants you’ll find anywhere in America” according to GQ Magazine? We’re so glad you asked.
Las Vegas Vegan-Friendly Restaurant: Other Mama
Vegan options at Other Mama from the kitchen
Krohmer’s brought in some incredible purveyors for Other Mama, including the artisanal Meiji tofu.
Meiji is the only Japanese tofu maker in the region and uses non-GMO products. Tapping into his background in Japanese cuisine, Krohmer’s cold tofu hiyayakko is a must order.
The dish features melt-in-your-mouth Meiji tofu topped with a scallion sauce. Simply let them know you’re vegan and to hold the bonito flakes.
Agedashi tofu, which is normally hard to find vegan, is vegan as is on the menu at Other Mama. The lightly crisped Meiji tofu is served with a ginger soy sauce.
Another must-order is the soba arugula salad. It uses matcha soba noodles tossed in a carrot ginger dressing with edamame and arugula.
Next are the veggie gyoza, filled with meaty shitake mushrooms, tofu and quinoa.
Other options from the kitchen include a mushroom tempura (specify vegan), as well as shishito peppers.
Vegan options at Other Mama from the raw bar and sushi
The vegan options at Other Mama don’t stop with eats from the kitchen. You can also order vegan sushi, like a mushroom tempura roll.
Finally, there’s a veggie tostada using locally made tostadas from the local Masazul.
Vegan cocktails
Not only does Other Mama have vegan eats, they also have vegan craft cocktails. Svetlana, a cocktail made with horseradish, ginger, lemon and Becherovka, is our favorite.
