Las Vegas ranks in top 20 cities for vegan and vegetarian dining

Diana Edelman
Updated

Las Vegas continues its path towards being one of the most vegan-friendly cities in the USA. Recently, a study was done by Wallethub comparing 100 of the largest cities across 16 key indicators of vegan- and vegetarian-friendliness. The results were published in 2021’s Best Cities for Vegans & Vegetarians. Las Vegas ranks 20 overall for vegan food.

So, where does Las Vegas rank when it comes to being vegan-friendly?

Las Vegas ranks first in restaurants serving vegan options

With more than 20 all-vegan restaurants in Las Vegas, and hundreds of restaurants with vegan options, it’s no surprise the city ranks in the top echelon. Vegans, Baby has worked with numerous restaurants in the city to encourage the addition of vegan dishes on menus, as well as provided menu consultation to restaurants interested in adding dishes.

Every restaurant listed on Vegans, Baby is either vegan or has at least three specific vegan dishes on the menu that aren’t only salads and sides.

However, there is a 5-way tie for first place. The other cities that are the most vegan-friendly in the USA are Scottsdale, New York City, Nashville and Washington, DC

Las Vegas ranks first in juice and smoothie bars per capita.

Thanks to the likes of The Juice Box, which recently partnered with the all-vegan Miss Mylk for vegan eats at their spot, Las Vegas comes in tops in the juice bar category.

Other rankings for Las Vegas

Las Vegas ranks 7th in salad shops per capita and 11th for vegetable nurseries per capita. In addition, it ranks 29th in restaurants serving vegan options. Finally, it comes in 42nd (out of 50) for farmers markets and CSA programs per capita.

North Las Vegas ranks last

It should come as no surprise (and if it does, take a look at our map) that North Las Vegas continues to be a food desert when it comes to the accessibility of vegan options. Furthermore, it ranks last when it comes to salad shops per capita and 95th for vegetarian options at restaurants. Finally, it ranks 95th for farmers markets and CSAs.

A word from Vegans, Baby

Based on our own experiences and research, we don’t agree with this list in terms of vegan and vegetarian-friendly cities. New York City is one of the most vegan-friendly cities in the world, and should be in the top three in the USA. That being said, we do agree North Las Vegas is extremely under-served when it comes to vegan accessibility. And, of course, we agree Las Vegas is one of the top 20 cities in the USA for vegan options.
