Viva La Compost

Want to get into composting in Las Vegas but don’t have the space/means to make that magic happen at your house? Viva La Compost offers a composting service in Vegas.

Composting is an excellent way to give back to our Mother Earth — instead of trashing leftover scraps of food, it allows you to give back to the Earth, enriching the soil once again with vitamins and minerals. Simple, right?

But, what’s not always simple is the act of composting, especially if you don’t have an outdoor space or yard to put the compost.

Viva La Compost is a vegan composting service in Las Vegas. For more vegan businesses in Las Vegas, visit www.vegansbaby,com

Meet local vegan and business woman, Veronica Rivas, the founder of Viva La Compost. Fueled by a passion for gardening and composting, it’s her goal to help Las Vegans get into the habit of recycling their non-meat and non-dairy waste and transform it to something that gives back.

Viva La Compost has made composting so simple, you’ll find it hard to come up with an excuse not to start saving those scraps.

Simply drop a one-time deposit fee of $20, and then pick a subscription that works for you — $40 a month for weekly pick-up of your compostables, or $25 a month for biweekly pick-ups.

The company provides a five-gallon bucket and lid to get you started … then it’s up to you to fill it with unwanted food scraps, leftovers and organic materials. As Viva La Compost puts it — “cooked raw, wet or dry — if it grows, it goes.”

When it’s time for your scheduled pick-up, drop your bucket out front and it will be take and replaced with a new, clean bucket.

Looking to have some of that rich, vegan soil aka “black gold” in your veggie garden? Every four months, Viva La Compost  redistributes its composted soil to its subscribers. Choose to keep your five pounds of compost or donate it to local areas such as schools, community gardens, or even an animal sanctuary.

Restaurants can also take part! Viva La Compost works with local businesses including Fruits and Roots and Vegan Meals By Mindy, to convert their nutritious food scraps into precious compost. Prices and fees vary for businesses. For more information, contact Viva La Compost directly.

Kathryn Hartwig is a senior writer for Vegans, Baby. She decided to go vegan nearly a decade ago while searching for the perfect diet to compliment her role as a professional dancer. After experimenting with multitudes of fads, she Kat found a lifestyle that turned out to be more than a diet. She settled in Vegas with her husband/photographer Daniel, and puppy, Layla, after traveling the world on cruise ships and living in New York City. The family recently welcomed the birth of their first child, a true vegan baby.
