Whipped Urban Dessert Lab has set the bar high when it comes to soft serve vegan ice cream in New York City. The world’s first oat milk soft serve ice cream shoppe opened right before the pandemic and today has lines stretching outside its front door in its Lower East Side neighborhood.

And with good reason.

Their vegan soft serve ice cream creations are excellent.

Vegan ice cream in the Lower East Side

Founded by BIPOC women, Courtney Blagrove and Zan B.R., their personal mission is to increase the percentage of BIPOC women in executive and managerial positions in the culinary world. They aim to dismantle societal structures which challenge the progression of BIPOC women in the industry.

They’ve raised the bar when it comes to plant-based ice cream, too.

Whipped offers their hand-selected fusions menu, as well as a build-your-own cones.

Fusions at Whipped

Choose from a menu of six decadent ice cream fusions: salted pecan, mint chocolate chip, coffee waffle crunch, strawberry shortcake, chocolate peanut butter pretzel or cinnamon apple pie.

Our favorite is the strawberry shortcake. If you ever had the Good Humor strawberry shortcake bars, they’re like that … but better.

The creation starts with your choice of cup or cone, then the strawberry sauce and crumble are added.

From there, the sweet cream base goes in, then it’s topped with more crumble. The result? A light, refreshing ice cream that’s got the perfect amount of strawberry.

For something different, try the cinnamon apple crisp with a spiced crumble ad topped with cinnamon and a gorgeous apple drizzle.

Build-your-own

If the fusions don’t do it for you, or you want to get creative, you can also build-your-own at Whipped.

First, choose your base. Whipped offers their sweet creme with touch of vanilla, chocolate or The Whipped Twist combining both. The ice creams are nut-free, soy-free and gluten-free.

Next, pick your natural sauces. They offer chocolate, peanut butter, coffee, strawberry, mint chocolate and apple.

Finally, select your natural crumb coats. Whipped has pretzels, waffle cone pieces, salted pecans, rainbow sprinkles and sugar cone pieces. Crumbles are chocolate cookie, strawberry, and cinnamon spice.

Oate launched in 2020, and is the shoppe’s hard scooped ice cream comes in a variety of flavors. Order it or get it delivered nationwide. 

Booze-infused ice cream floats

If you want to make it a little spicier, Whipped also makes booze-infused ice cream floats like a pina colada with the sweet creme ice cream.
