The wait is almost over. Slutty Vegan to open New York City location in September, 2022.
Slutty Vegan is opening in New York City September 17, 2022. The popular vegan restaurant that started in Atlanta in 2018 debuts in Brooklyn (690 Fulton St.) in less than a month. It’s the brand’s first franchise in NYC and the seventh location to open nationwide. It adds to the growing list of vegan restaurants in New York.
Vegan burgers, with a side of adult
The popular Black-owned plant-based burger brand is known for it’s adult-themed menu items. For example, there’s The Hollywood Hooker. It’s a vegan chopped Philly with jalapeños, bell peppers and caramelized onions. It comes topped with vegan provolone, lettuce, tomato, ketchup and mayo and is served on a hoagie roll. Other eats include the Super Slut, an Impossible burger with guacamole, jalapeños, cheese, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, and Slut Sauce on a Hawaiian bun, plus hot dogs, chicken tenders and even New Orlean-style crispy shrimp.
Today, you can find Slutty Vegan at five locations in Georgia, plus a spot in Birmingham, Ala. Aside from the new Brooklyn location, Slutty Vegan is set to open one more spot in Georgia soon.
The restaurant was the first to receive Pepsi’s Black-owned business grant which gives $10 million to Black-owned businesses.
Pinky Cole making vegan mainstream
Founded by Aisha “Pinky” Cole, who opened her first restaurant – Pinky’s Jamaican & American Restaurant – in Harlem in 2014, the restaurant includes investors like NYC’s Danny Meyer. The restaurant was a dream of Cole’s, who wanted to open “the conversation on vegan food options for people who have never considered them” in communities where there was high numbers of hypertension, obesity, cholesterol and more.
Since she garnered national attention for her long lines in Atlanta back in 2018, Cole’s career and Slutty Vegan have come medi darlings. Recently, she debuted a plant-based spinach dip at Costco stores, and even collaborated with shoe designer Steve Madden on Slutty Vegan shoes. In addition, Cole is DoorDash’s Chief Restaurant Advisor. Expect a cookbook from Cole to drop this fall.
Cole is also the founder of The Pinky Cole Foundation which “empowers generations of color to win in life, financially, and in the pursuit of their entrepreneurial dreams.”
