Another all-vegan restaurant is now open in Union Square in New York City. HipCityVeg opened mid-October in New York, it’s first location in the state.
The popular Latina, women-owned restaurant chain is expected to open eight new locations by February 2022, including two delivery-only spots in Brooklyn and Queens.
HipCityVeg is known for the veganized versions of classic American fast food eats, mainly burgers, fries, chick’n sandwiches, nuggets and shakes. It’s menu is fairly large, offering a multitude of eats in each category. For example, they offer five burgers and five chick’n dishes.
We tried a bunch of eats to help you narrow it down.
5 things you’ll love at HipCityVeg
1. Crispy HipCity Ranch
There are a lot of things HipCityVeg does very well. One of them is their chick’n. Their chick’n comes coated in a thick, crispy batter that’s pretty close to perfect. Whatever chick’n dish you order, the crunchy batter steals the show. Our pick for chick’ sandwich is the Crispy HipCity Ranch. It comes topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles with peppercorn ranch. Want a little more oomph? Get your patty tossed in buffalo sauce.
2. Ziggy Burger
If you’re a fan of Beyond Burgers, this is the burger to get at HipCityVeg. Their Ziggy Burger features a grilled Beyond Burger with organic tempeh bac’n, provolone cheese, special sauce, plus lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle.
3. Sunny Side Sausage, Egg and Cheese
We dig they have breakfast eats all day on their menu. No matter the time of day, the Sunnyside Sausage, Egg and Cheese is a good choice. It’s got organic sausage, JUST Egg and gouda cheese stuffed inside an English muffin.
4. Sweet Potato Fries
We actually wouldn’t have even ordered these if it weren’t for the fact we met Rebecca of Vegan Bodega Cat when we were there who literally walked inside and ordered them for us, insisting they are a must. And, they are. These perfectly cooked sweet potato fries have just the right amount of salt and come with organic ketchup or sriracha aioli.
5. Seasonal Shake
Every month HipCityVegan changes up their seasonal shakes. In November, it was pumpkin with soy ice cream and organic soy milk. December is merry mint chocolate. January is orange creamsicle. You get the picture, now be sure to get a seasonal shake.
